<section section-type="section-one" id="HA1AAACCDB8144DC8900BBBF613992D94"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>McCarran-Walter Technical Corrections Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H48ED8376E6224844AE4D7E4DEAA552CA"><enum>2.</enum><header>Members of a federally recognized Indian Tribe in the United States or a First Nation in Canada</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 289 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1359">8 U.S.C. 1359</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H0CF4B9211F1248658664063205194850"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by inserting <quote><header-in-text style="traditional" level="subsection">(a)</header-in-text></quote> before <quote>Nothing</quote>;</text></paragraph> <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HA504A9EB35654BA786BE9C1DB6661516"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>who possess at least 50 per centum of blood of the American Indian race.</quote> and inserting the following: “who—</text> 
<quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HA5EE178BA65347868A06C43109F4EFBC"> 
<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HBE06E0D887F048049012E0CEC5639C50"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">are members, or are eligible to become members, of a federally recognized Indian Tribe in the United States; or</text></paragraph> <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HE6A6946BF78145429C24E44B73B3E74F"><enum>(2)</enum> <subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H5EBF5AF48BB64B56B24D2427448E27BC"><enum>(A)</enum><text>has Indian status in Canada through registration under the Indian Act (R.S.C., 1985, c. I–5); or</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H141CE62D5975413FB7F938FF7A1A3D29" indent="up1"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">holds membership in a self-governing First Nation in Canada.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph> <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H6DAC5B49617246C3892D2AC8F2ADF800"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HD09D4B4E03AD42D4A39132C6ACFD0CEF"><enum>(b)</enum><text>A person who is admitted to the United States pursuant to subsection (a) shall have the status of a person lawfully admitted for permanent residence.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section> </legis-body></bill>
