<section id="HA234AEAD34254DF9A5303164611C2423" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protecting Against Paperless and Electronic Requirements Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>PAPER Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H4CF2D3CE9C834EAD80FD122DE9D928E6"><enum>2.</enum><header>Requirement</header> <subsection id="HD98A45F55A4143839452CF23B7C9B190"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Each covered entity shall offer each consumer of such entity the option of receiving paper copies of their monthly statements.</text></subsection>
<subsection id="HC8B9F2927C9545B5A86995414D930130"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Prohibition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A covered entity may not condition the use of any services offered by such entity on the sole use of digital monthly statements by a consumer.</text></subsection> <subsection id="HD0A011856A694F9CBBDE91DBEA48DE65"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definitions</header> <paragraph id="H6D034D1E5DFE4A3699DDC013060E0F0C"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Depository institution</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>depository institution</term> has the meaning given the term in section 3 of the Federal Deposit Act.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HC4647ECD4F4E4D9589F60CF9906CD548"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Credit union</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>credit union</term> has the meaning given the term in section 101 of the Federal Credit Union Act.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H4BDBE868CF2548C2A5742671E9D0B050"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Covered entity</header><text>The term <term>covered entity</term> means a depository institution or a credit union.</text></paragraph></subsection></section>
