<section id="H4F47D427D2B1487BB1415B95654D357C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Coordinator for engagement for PFAS-impacted defense communities</header> 
<subsection id="H1A8EEA6E90BE40CC9E9206C6458E5A70"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Establishment</header><text>Not later than one year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall designate an official of the Department of Defense as the <quote>Coordinator for Engagement with Defense Communities Affected by PFAS</quote>.</text></subsection> <subsection id="HF0562DB24F1A4994AD209F7E9DBBF107"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Responsibilities</header><text>The responsibilities of the Coordinator designated under subsection (a) are—</text> 
<paragraph id="H180D13A8C333451EB04E32FA4C892AAD"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to improve the outreach, education, and communication efforts of the Department with respect to current or former defense communities located in the United States that have been affected by the contamination or leakage of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (referred to in this section as <quote>PFAS</quote>); and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H8DD18E079A5941E6A532C8F862104BAA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>to serve as a dedicated liaison between the Department and local governments, advocacy organizations, and individual citizens in the current and former defense communities where the Department has ongoing or incomplete PFAS remediation projects.</text></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HA14152E40FA54F80A57445EA0C8FD3A2"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definition of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances</header><text>In this section, the terms <term>perfluoroalkyl substance</term> and <term>polyfluoroalkyl substance</term> have the meanings given such terms in section 333(b) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/283">Public Law 116–283</external-xref>; 134 Stat. 3531; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/10/3062">10 U.S.C. 3062</external-xref> note).</text></subsection></section> </legis-body></bill>
