R. 34</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250103">January 3, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="G000565">Mr. Gosar</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HII00">Committee on Natural Resources</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HAG00">Agriculture</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To deposit portions of revenue generated from public lands into the Social Security Trust Fund.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H8EB489D5476C449994BB47BF6977E453" style="OLC"><section id="HC1CABF5F95E743CC8C53F154B460B564" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Land And Social Security Optimization Act</short-title></quote> or <quote><short-title>LASSO Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HECCD1F466E35454F998AD79C4070C222"><enum>2.</enum><header>Public land revenue for Social Security Trust Fund</header><subsection id="HBB0959DB6E1C485CA7E63BB2510CCEAD"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other law, each fiscal year, 10 percent of amounts collected by the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture from the revenue generated by covered public lands during the preceding fiscal year shall be deposited into the Federal Old-Age and Survivors Trust Fund established under section 201(a) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/401">42 U.S.C. 401(a)</external-xref>).</text></subsection><subsection id="HBC1A1E5670C74EDCB385F843FBA3A002"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Rules of construction</header><text>Nothing in this Act shall be construed as—</text><paragraph id="H7AFE452BA143463DA89427380DEF0514"><enum>(1)</enum><text>authorizing the Secretary of the Interior or the Secretary of Agriculture to raise the price of any of the activities through which revenue is generated on covered public lands; or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H526E007B48D84526A988F72E32B0E72F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>reducing amounts made available to States, Indian Tribes, territories, or local governments from revenue generated by covered public lands.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H6EB9C71EDDF34F07850B6C47E76FE312"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Covered public lands defined</header><text>In this Act, the term <term>covered public lands</term> means any land under the administrative jurisdiction—</text><paragraph id="H60754BC9A82B4C788B2D3D7AD58AB0EC"><enum>(1)</enum><text>of the Department of the Interior, including submerged lands on the Outer Continental Shelf (as such term is defined in section 2 of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/1331">43 U.S.C. 1331</external-xref>); or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H17B4FEF375E34E079687C76A91C433CE"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the Forest Service.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
