<section id="HA03F969554FC4C03AE8D68E6955E6E57" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Department of Energy research, development, testing, and evaluation of novel technologies to detect fentanyl vapor or particles</header> 
<subsection id="HE637BE6EC7144CDC9A010CE971BCFEFB"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Title III of the Department of Energy Research and Innovation Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/18641">42 U.S.C. 18641 et seq.</external-xref>) is amended by—</text> <paragraph id="H4C3CCC0763934548A88CDDDBDA155697"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating section 317 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/18655">42 U.S.C. 18655</external-xref>) as section 318; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H93D843B616404EB687CA2DF979E28328"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after section 316 the following new section:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="HEC272711B9644D828F25BE359F735789" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <section id="H34B16C83CE5C405B93A58EC52B4F8949"><enum>317.</enum><header>Research, development, testing, and evaluation of novel technologies to detect fentanyl vapor or particles</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Secretary of Energy, in coordination with the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Postmaster General, shall carry out a research, development, testing, and evaluation program of novel technologies to detect fentanyl vapor or particles in support of rapid screening—</text> 
<paragraph id="H11DD0B7060004067AB586513DCCF8381"><enum>(1)</enum><text>of the mails;</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H792E9C4B67A24D99B5E02D74F3C13855"><enum>(2)</enum><text>at prisons;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HE4CA60AE18FA425DBBEEA558B6A7CE7C"><enum>(3)</enum><text>at United States borders; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H6A761AA56596404783AA9B7280D7E04C"><enum>(4)</enum><text>in other related use cases.</text></paragraph></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H4E22866B84BC4E4CB6FD9B1EEA3FEB77"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The table of contents in section 1(b) of the Department of Energy Research and Innovation Act is amended by striking the item relating to section 317 and inserting the following new items:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="HCE0680EBEC0D4B258C6E4FF66D76C3DE" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <toc regeneration="no-regeneration"> <toc-entry level="section">Sec. 317.
