<section id="HB65B38FF5FB8406EAE9B1FB1FA6458F6" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Targeting TANF to Families in Need Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H19B0E01A0E424E9DA1062032CC1DCE25"><enum>2.</enum><header>Targeting funds to families in need</header> <subsection id="H822E265C35F542CA8CDE8A35AF11B3CA"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 404 of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/604">42 U.S.C. 604</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subsection id="H95078029C9054605B824C5C464306CEB"><enum>(l)</enum><header>Establishing a threshold for families in need</header><text>A State to which a grant is made under section 403(a)(1) shall use the grant only to provide assistance or services to a family whose income is less than twice the poverty guidelines updated periodically in the Federal Register under section 673(2) of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/9902">42 U.S.C. 9902(2)</external-xref>).</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> <subsection id="H8AB28576177A4A13AD1B4989BB6DB982"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall take effect on October 1, 2026.</text></subsection></section>
