R. 2334</legis-num><current-chamber display="yes">IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250916">September 16, 2025</action-date><action-desc> Received; read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>AN ACT</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act to preempt any squatter’s rights established by State law regarding real property owned by a member of the uniformed services.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HB5A92462EB104A18BCE7F8ADA201B42C" style="OLC"><section id="H8CCDC6DA6AC0485CB3D18C03E3958A50" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Servicemember Residence Protection Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HC45AC87134F54730A41D93A0D69C710C" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Servicemembers Civil Relief Act: tolling of period of adverse possession</header><subsection id="HDAD6AEA53B734C2091155185B62096B3"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 206 of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/50/3936">50 U.S.C. 3936</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H517C1FEB47444AD2846AD7B2B02B79B5" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="H2044E57893CF4AD5B36F114FD2A9556F"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Tolling of period of adverse possession</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The period of a servicemember's military service may not be included in computing a period of adverse possession of such servicemember’s real property.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="HE36B84C508814C73AE69D1E3AF0FF50F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Website</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 45 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall consult with the Attorney General and update the website of the Department of Veterans Affairs and other relevant websites to include information and resources regarding—</text><paragraph id="H18FE034A0BBB44EF8CB317AEE2E2F4BD"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">how a member of the uniformed services may secure real property while absent for a period of military service;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H7FBDFC62D1ED48BFB6520ECC52AF0152"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">leasing real property; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="HBBDBC0E9723742E0BD226B63657674BB"><enum>(3)</enum><text>landlord-tenant rights and obligations; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H4D61EF19EE594D9891C4E097192D5695"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">any other relevant information determined necessary by the Secretary and the Attorney General.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body><attestation><attestation-group><attestation-date date="20250915" chamber="House">Passed the House of Representatives September 15, 2025.</attestation-date><attestor display="yes">Kevin F.
