R. 2245</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250321">March 21, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="B001298">Mr. Bacon</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 38, United States Code, to increase the amount paid by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to veterans for improvements and structural alterations furnished as part of home health services.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HB0B27F854DA14A6E9418B18E57B69442" style="OLC"><section id="H00461210019B4468B2580DD5D3676A56" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Autonomy for Disabled Veterans Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H1418D4C81B134D4CBB8B4FCC5AAB74E3"><enum>2.</enum><header>Increase in amount available to disabled veterans for improvements and structural alterations furnished as part of home health services</header><subsection id="HFAA6268B2AAB45DB8A3E83C22EDAD73B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Increase</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1717 of title 38, United States Code, is amended, in paragraph (2) of subsection (a)—</text><paragraph id="H83B5BA9487D94278A46804D9D66751BA" commented="no"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A)(ii), by striking <quote>$6,800</quote> and inserting <quote>$10,000</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HEF6D2AD5486A4B84A58BC1BDD79A3577" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B)(ii), by striking <quote>$2,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$5,000</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HAE2B785F016542B5AA7A34B3D80BADFB"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Applicability</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) shall apply to a veteran who first applies for benefits under such paragraph on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection><subsection id="H6D75CAA8DF4D4CBBB0370E7D6B28CE02" commented="no"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Clarification</header><text>A veteran who exhausted the eligibility of such veteran for benefits under such paragraph before the date of the enactment of this Act is not entitled to additional benefits under such section by reason of the amendments made by subsection (a).</text></subsection></section><section id="H0F04D8CCEAFC458194D705F6599EB644"><enum>3.</enum><header>Adjustment for inflation</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Such subsection is further amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H006BC68BCE2D409DAD95E38594CE4302" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H2B008C9AE8A54B0C891CA7E7D8E8683E" indent="up1"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">On an annual basis, the Secretary shall increase the dollar amount in effect under subsection (a)(2) by a percentage equal to the percentage by which the Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (United States city average) increased during the 12-month period ending with the last month for which Consumer Price Index data is available. In the event that such Consumer Price Index does not increase during such period, the Secretary shall maintain the dollar amount in effect under subsection (a)(2) during the previous fiscal year. </text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
