R. 2169</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250318">March 18, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="B001321">Mr. Barrett</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="M001137">Mr. Meeks</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Government Reform</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 5, United States Code, to provide that Martin Luther King, Jr. Day shall be observed separately from Inauguration Day, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H71DC2328E71B4CBE98ADC0433A223027" style="OLC"><section id="H7A81640B4B8D4559BE1FC011FE4035A0" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Proper Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Inauguration Day Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HEBA8B3020A0442C5A8AC172320A3F564" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Separate dates for celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Inauguration Day</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 6103 of title 5, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="H310B3D98E6FC4897908FA0489F97E51B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsection (d) as subsection (e); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HF58FFCAD929E48ECA73C61D09BEB4F0E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (c) the following:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="HF9298B76B34946A99AC0D8775929B34D" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="H6D60910EAF844043959C0B77F3B64C56"><enum>(d)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding subsection (a), if by operation of subsection (c) Inauguration Day will be observed on the legal public holiday for the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., then the date for the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. under such subsection (a) shall be the Tuesday following the third Monday in January. </text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
