R. 2166</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250314">March 14, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="W000829">Mr. Wied</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="G000592">Mr. Golden of Maine</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="E000235">Mr. Ezell</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000165">Mr. Tiffany</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="V000135">Mr. Van Orden</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HPW00">Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 23, United States Code, with respect to vehicle weight limitations for certain logging vehicles, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H5778DCB8A9464AC3BF3155B0E7D29F86" style="OLC"><section id="H6D773F464DF646FB91F3D70F9017850C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Safe Routes Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H7E1B34B934C34D108CCCA6A45029BC9D"><enum>2.</enum><header>Vehicle weight exemptions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 127 of title 23, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="HADA30A07C91E4251ACE181E19B14F8CF" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HB996C32BEED643749E67C3C98F3AEED5"><enum>(z)</enum><header>Certain logging vehicles</header><paragraph id="HBA955827F4F5402693553D7EC17F75C8"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall waive, with respect to a covered logging vehicle, the application of any vehicle weight limit established under this section.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H1BFC241B221644BEB9A4862D65EB819F"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Covered logging vehicle defined</header><text>In this subsection, the term <term>covered logging vehicle</term> means a vehicle that—</text><subparagraph id="H835BD478130D40D7B2ADDD3F3D8FB351"><enum>(A)</enum><text>is transporting raw or unfinished forest products, including logs, pulpwood, biomass, or wood chips;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HEF75E915AFC04C9D890D03DE31986F69"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">is traveling a distance not greater than 150 air miles on the Interstate from origin to a storage or processing facility; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H73AD7A41D2B54170BDBBF816C6480166"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">meets State legal weight tolerances and vehicle configurations for transporting raw or unfinished forest products within the State boundaries in which the vehicle is operating.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H4E50D478FD524B8DBA06A42B07F7E068"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Application of weight tolerances</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The waiver in this subsection shall only apply with respect to a State legal weight tolerance in effect on the date of enactment of this subsection.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
