R. 2136</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250314">March 14, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="L000596">Mrs. Luna</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="N000026">Mr. Nehls</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide for enhanced penalties for officers and employees of the Department of Justice and the intelligence communities who conceal, remove, or mutilate Government records, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HEACD083796604E90883305A054DF21EE" style="OLC"><section id="H310AE2A2F9A04AF8A4B77C6DACB44501" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Stopping High-level Record Elimination and Destruction Act of 2025</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>SHRED Act of 2025</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H3F3673E818F04D53A04BDC741979AF0C"><enum>2.</enum><header>Increased penalties for concealment, removal, or mutilation of government records for officers and employees of the Department of Justice and the intelligence community</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2071 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="USC" id="HC4D3F5ED64E642D9B45F94CF99E115D4" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HA6D8FBE1A2CB43ACB370366A0EA83DF3"><enum>(c)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whoever, being an officer or employee of the Department of Justice or of an agency or office of the intelligence community (as defined in section 3(4) of the National Security Act of 1947 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/50/3003">50 U.S.C. 3003(4)</external-xref>, commits an offense under this section, shall be imprisoned not less than 20 years or for life, fined under this title, or both. </text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
