R. 1647</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250227">February 27, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="U000040">Ms. Underwood</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="H001068">Mr. Huffman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001112">Mr. Carbajal</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000147">Ms. Norton</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="K000400">Ms. Kamlager-Dove</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="A000381">Ms. Ansari</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Public Health Service Act to require the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to implement the Climate Ready Tribes Initiative.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H808075397D1F42FD8ED91B1CFD218DC8" style="OLC"><section id="H58996248AD22429EA565BD4EC60ED91F" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Tribal Climate Health Assurance Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H0F2E92FD7C6A4ED1B9DDB1AC56324879"><enum>2.</enum><header>Climate Ready Tribes Initiative</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Part B of title III of the Public Health Service Act is amended by inserting after section 317V (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/247b-24">42 U.S.C. 247b–24</external-xref>) the following new section:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H85716279A5144BC5864D1E2FFFC7F68B" style="OLC"><section id="HC8EB67005C4647878492F50B119E470D"><enum>317W.</enum><header>Climate Ready Tribes Initiative</header><subsection id="H5D40E776409B4A8DA1C560C69065F673"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in coordination with the National Indian Health Board, shall implement the Climate Ready Tribes Initiative for the following purposes:</text><paragraph id="HD75790955F00488F855483D98F1973CC"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Translating climate change science to inform Tribal governments, health departments, and communities.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HF20A578D6AB54632BBEE6E3F6C286347"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Creating decision-support tools to build capacity to prepare for climate change.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HEA47FA5B77104E51A0B53B997845B278"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Serving as a credible leader in planning and preparing for the public health impacts of climate change.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HFE78753EB2014309B81F61DACFF2796E"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Identifying, assessing, and taking action to mitigate climate-related health threats.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H5C70570FB1DE4D7B8E62CC8109EBFB7D"><enum>(5)</enum><text>Sharing relevant materials and resources, including information about funding and other opportunities.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H74DC086DC9FB4C3D9085141BF2482039"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><paragraph id="H6C2EDB31CBA44E2C82634912F3DE8F00"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>To carry out this section, there is authorized to be appropriated $110,000,000 for fiscal year 2026 and each fiscal year thereafter.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H67A43D65D3944FB58E555F1485117387"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Limitation</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">None of the funds made available under paragraph (1) may be transferred or reprogrammed by the Secretary to carry out another program administered by the Secretary.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
