which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Government Reform</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To reinstate veteran Federal employees, to require reports from executive branch agencies of the Federal Government on the number of veteran employees fired from such agencies, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H1B459F6558BC4D0CAFB476B4E479516B" style="OLC"><section id="H5062FB5B38FC4BFD8D578C965055BC22" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protect Veteran Jobs Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HCDCE95CF289A4D22B572E4CD6D0F4F95"><enum>2.</enum><header>Reinstatement eligibility for veteran Federal employees; executive branch agency reports on removal of veterans</header><subsection id="H11E007B841D743DA8775EAAE1CC073F9"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Reinstatement</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Any individual who is a veteran and who was involuntarily removed or otherwise dismissed without cause from a civil service position during the period beginning on January 20, 2025, and ending on the date of the enactment of this section shall be eligible for reinstatement to such position or any other civil service position for which the individual is qualified.</text></subsection><subsection id="H85BFBC23C2D54E2F9F64E50085E7FD51"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Report</header><paragraph id="H27A8A97E1F944CECB42298A0BB4FA40C"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Not later than 60 days after the date of the enactment of this Act and every three months thereafter, the head of each executive branch agency of the Federal Government shall submit, to the appropriate congressional committees, a report on veteran employees of such agency who were removed or otherwise dismissed from the agency.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H235C57634E6C4241B26C30459129DD58"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Contents</header><text>Any report submitted under paragraph (1) shall include—</text><subparagraph id="H0A6317638115467D82FD83F1A15C9182"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the total number of veteran employees removed or otherwise dismissed from the agency during the period covered by the report; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H6D4810DF078E4911A10AC02C9A24CFBE"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the reason for each such removal or dismissal.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H16A85689997142AD84CF4D36D87E78D8"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Sunset</header><text>The requirement to submit reports under this subsection shall terminate on January 20, 2029.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H90058AE002B34FABBC9A7FBD3E3AA54A"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section—</text><paragraph id="H6366DCBD4C8946CBA4FAE650B6A21D55"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the term <quote>appropriate congressional committees</quote> means—</text><subparagraph id="HE7442E8608BC4267A45E3FC735FA2BEE"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs of the House of Representatives; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H359DDA8C36434C9A842330C77D5BC61F"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs of the Senate;</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HDF168E5433184451AFCA80086E0DEFCB"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the term <quote>civil service</quote> has the meaning given that term in section 2101 of title 5, United States Code; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H9FB4EBA9904F451581B47D5B46AFE631"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the term <quote>veteran</quote> has the meaning given that term in section 101 of title 38, United States Code. </text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
