<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 3896</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20240308">March 8, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S353">Mr. Schatz</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S361">Ms. Hirono</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSGA00">Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To provide enhanced disaster unemployement assistance to victims of the Hawaii wildfires of 2023, and for other purposes. </official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H5BC3D1D8638E449A8D89720BC9897938"><section section-type="section-one" id="H609DD3D177C64523A0584102059C67B0"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Hawaii Wildfire Disaster Unemployment Assistance Continuity Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="HDE88862424494875A497EBA59BBE1893"><enum>2.</enum><header>Disaster unemployment assistance</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other provision of law, in the case of an individual eligible to receive unemployment assistance under section 410(a) of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/5177">42 U.S.C. 5177(a)</external-xref>) as a result of a disaster declaration made for the wildfires in Hawaii on August 8, 2023, the President shall make such assistance available for 39 weeks after the date of the disaster declaration.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
