<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 3782</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20240208" legis-day="20240207">February 8 (legislative day, February 7), 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S374">Mr. Cotton</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require regular briefings on efforts to capture or kill the leadership of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Jalisco Cartel Neutralization Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idad3125ac6065459e8dc84dfa80f07202"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Congressional briefings on the decapitation of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel</header><subsection id="id6E11B81B22F34A6296D2CF5F3D097C9E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Defined term</header><text>In this Act, the term <term>appropriate committees of Congress</term> means—</text><paragraph id="id2D8A463FBE124D8084557858F758831E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate</committee-name>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idcb69f61f0c4047468dab5ea9bffcfea2"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="SSAS00">Committee on Armed Services of the Senate</committee-name>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idbfcf2b04c830495e914c49411feaad11"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="SSFR00">Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate</committee-name>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="iddf2f5e8590724080b77ab75d34f52b03"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="SSGA00">Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate</committee-name>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idd5527a2d64d1468fae044f4c5f60448d"><enum>(5)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="SLIN00">Select Committee on Intelligence of the Senate</committee-name>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0498223cff514fafb32fafffdf27ab42"><enum>(6)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="">Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives</committee-name>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idaa724ecf04f049f5b3f31331f1dfcdcd"><enum>(7)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="">Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives</committee-name>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6b5fdc2de349462fa6eefae4634d1432"><enum>(8)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="">Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives</committee-name>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc6fba93cfbec4f349bed96fdd71025fe"><enum>(9)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="">Committee on Homeland Security of the House of Representatives</committee-name>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1c43befeb2f84daca974f27d5e28e678"><enum>(10)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the <committee-name committee-id="">Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence of the House of Representatives.</committee-name></text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id5DA7605ECBB84DF298B77EC62551056F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Briefing requirement</header><text>Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, and every 90 days thereafter, the Secretary of Defense shall provide a briefing to the appropriate committees of Congress regarding any progress made toward capturing or killing the leadership of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (also known as the<quote> Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación</quote> or <quote>CJNG</quote>). </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
