RES. 986</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240130">January 30, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="M001221">Mr. Molinaro</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S001196">Ms. Stefanik</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000597">Mr. Garbarino</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000600">Mr. Langworthy</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000478">Ms. Tenney</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000632">Mr. D'Esposito</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000598">Mr. LaLota</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000599">Mr. Lawler</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M000317">Ms. Malliotakis</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="W000828">Mr. Williams of New York</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HED00">Committee on Education and the Workforce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Condemning New York Governor Kathy Hochul for reducing funding for schools across New York State and prioritizing increased funding for migrants.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on January 16, 2024, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the fiscal year 2025 State budget, which is a record high 233 billion dollar budget;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the proposed budget includes a new formula for school aid funding that reduces funding for hundreds of schools across the State of New York;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas such school aid funding cuts will ultimately lead to a decline in disability services;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Governor Hochul’s 2025 budget includes billions of dollars in additional funds for the migrant crisis; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the additional billions of dollars in funds for migrants will be used to provide migrants with legal assistance, housing, transportation, health care, and jobs: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="OLC" id="H13D34C7448A84E7AACC5AE4E83AC486B"><section id="H32C51630C3C84C0EA65E5C7E09A6D958" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="HA411839ABC0F4288B1F38A2D18A6CC72"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">denounces Governor Kathy Hochul for reducing funding for schools across New York State;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H093E7A1F90214693A4042281C50A2628"><enum>(2)</enum><text>condemns Governor Hochul for allowing the border crisis to displace students and harm their education; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H3C88D417CB5A4BFD8E9E4536D12EBFEA"><enum>(3)</enum><text>urges Governor Hochul to rescind her 2025 State budget proposal and prioritize students over migrants by reversing the funding cuts to schools.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
