RES. 1480</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240920">September 20, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="C001134">Ms. Caraveo</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S000168">Ms. Salazar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001300">Ms. Barragán</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001133">Mr. Ciscomani</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000599">Mr. Ruiz</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001059">Mr. Costa</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000574">Mr. Gallego</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000617">Mrs. Ramirez</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000179">Mrs. Napolitano</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001156">Ms. Sánchez</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001110">Mr. Correa</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001226">Ms. Salinas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001097">Mr. Cárdenas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000468">Ms. Titus</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="V000136">Mr. Vasquez</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Recognizing Hispanic Restaurant Week and the contributions of Hispanic restaurant owners and employees to the restaurant industry.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas Hispanic Restaurant Week is celebrated from September 22, 2024, through October 3, 2024, during the national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15, 2024, through October 15, 2024;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in 2020, the Bureau of Census estimated that 41,817 owners of accommodation and food service businesses were Hispanic;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the restaurant industry plays a significant role in the economy of the United States as the second-largest private sector employer in the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 25.9 percent of workers in the restaurant industry are Hispanic;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during the last decade, Hispanic entrepreneurs have started small businesses, including restaurants, at a higher rate than any other demographic;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, according to a 2023 Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative report published by the Stanford Graduate School of Business, during the last decade, Hispanic entrepreneurs have started small businesses, including restaurants, at a higher rate than any other demographic;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, of the nearly 5,000,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States, the restaurant industry has the second-highest number of Hispanic owners;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 8 in 10 restaurant owners started their restaurant industry careers in entry-level positions;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 63 percent of adults in the United States have worked in the restaurant industry, making it <quote>the Nation’s training ground</quote>; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the restaurant industry employs more minority managers than any other industry: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H3728A92C55854896B8A36A37725C0ECC"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H89DF15C44C01472CB90D110E83E91A16"><enum/><text>That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="H2CEF6EEC806040CAA727EF2A0198FD92"><enum>(1)</enum><text>celebrates Hispanic Restaurant Week; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HDC3BAC065AE8452DB31AB3684B80A02A"><enum>(2)</enum><text>acknowledges—</text><subparagraph id="H8E7EE7B67C9844C79CCC6F8212CD59E8"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the contributions of Hispanic owners and staff of the restaurant industry to the United States economy; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H33A7BA447BA9476788F5AFDFD961CB9D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the fact that the restaurant industry provides restaurant owners, chefs, dishwashers, and other staff the opportunity to work hard, persevere, support their families, and live the American Dream.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
