which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Accountability</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Condemning the horrific shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, recognizing the victims, and expressing condolences and support to their families and their communities.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on September 4, 2024, a student violently opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas this reprehensible action resulted in the deaths of 2 students and 2 teachers—</text><paragraph id="id94e470ec31e44159acfcd73d791717ba"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Christian Angulo, age 14, a son and brother;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id78563196fea54785855bace4487dfc69"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Richard William <quote>Ricky</quote> Aspinwall II, age 39, a husband, dad, son, coach, and teacher;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idc73fafc813424d5b88af870108770240"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Cristina Irimie, age 53, a teacher, wife, daughter, and friend; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id46c7e4fc13f741129e176b275fb2dd1c"><enum>(4)</enum><text>Mason Schermerhorn, age 14, a son and brother;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 9 additional victims were injured and hospitalized;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas countless other students, teachers, and staff experienced significant trauma and mental anguish as a result of this shooting;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the entire Winder, Georgia, community has been tragically and irrevocably affected by this tragedy; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas all children should be able to attend school without fearing for their lives: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HF87D9434ACA14FEAAEC76C6CAAC63F82"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="HD1041A9622D24469B9151F5550970C07"><enum/><text>That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="HC65EBF129B98421ABF353CA7280A6126"><enum>(1)</enum><text>condemns the violence that occurred at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on September 4, 2024;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HE6C8DA82BE174F48AC280D5C45D85E29"><enum>(2)</enum><text>honors the memory of the victims—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HE24336F666974A70832B9D6E84194AE3"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Christian Angulo;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H5D9740B9A19D440181E5262475C549A3"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Richard William <quote>Ricky</quote> Aspinwall II;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H261DA007A2D743898B475C2A903646DA"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Cristina Irimie; and </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HE377C6A5F1684F5DB5CA9C1E05ADD162"><enum>(D)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Mason Schermerhorn;</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HC549538899CC45E4854CAB08118D8E99"><enum>(3)</enum><text>extends its deepest condolences and support to their friends and families, and to the communities of Apalachee High School and Winder, Georgia;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H06A0D3C7AFF3453D882292FD82257A98"><enum>(4)</enum><text>expresses hope for those wounded to recover fully and quickly;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H553F85961A8B4AE09C78D2E1364D6769"><enum>(5)</enum><text>offers appreciation and gratitude to law enforcement, first responders, healthcare workers, and teachers and faculty for their bravery and decisive action; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HF56FA28FA6554296AAFB74D0A487DACC"><enum>(6)</enum><text>reaffirms its duty to protect the safety and security of all people in the United States. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
