RES. 1421</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240903">September 3, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="F000480">Mr. Fong</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="M001225">Mr. Mullin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001300">Ms. Barragán</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="C001059">Mr. Costa</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Supporting the goals of <quote>Blood Cancer Awareness Month</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas blood cancer includes leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative neoplasms;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas blood cancer currently afflicts more than 1,600,000 people in the United States, with a person being diagnosed every 3 minutes;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas blood cancer is projected to cause the deaths of more than 57,300 people in the United States this year;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas steady support for blood cancer research has produced breakthrough treatment advances;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas blood cancer research has produced promising results for treatments like immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and minimal residual disease testing, among others;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Congress has provided strong support for blood cancer research that has contributed to important treatment advances and yielded significant improvements in patient survival;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Congress must continue to support blood cancer research to improve the early diagnosis and effective treatment of blood cancer;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas September is <quote>Blood Cancer Awareness Month</quote>; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Blood Cancer Awareness Month is a time to—</text><paragraph id="HB739CD0A986F4AF4B0B0969EA542773A"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">assess the challenges and opportunities of blood cancer research; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H597D869FFBFD4D0991CE7B6F0D119BF1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>support efforts to increase awareness of, and education about, blood cancer; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H45A35E45F152486AAB69096E2A32A460"><enum>(3)</enum><text>recognize the need for additional research into early diagnosis, screening, and treatment for blood cancer: Now, therefore, be it</text></paragraph></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HCA8F533918B444E48A888307EB63EA78"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H97EC3FD539BD47D0A3FCBBA9448CEB0A"><enum/><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="H427F5373157A48B488667FF61DEEA99D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>supports the goals of <quote>Blood Cancer Awareness Month</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HD9D7BE0040F6466EA5F641C4EEA2A3DA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>encourages people in the United States to—</text><subparagraph id="H31883AF80EC34AC7A8DBB11E68B760EE"><enum>(A)</enum><text>educate themselves about blood cancer;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HC7FB223C985C4EF0AF10729F9DD53D2D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>advocate for blood cancer research, education, and care; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H21386A9B3E424E1D9E393CD329AA6E20"><enum>(C)</enum><text>offer support to individuals living with blood cancer and their families.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
