RES. 1218</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240510">May 10, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="D000032">Mr. Donalds</sponsor> submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that Congress recognizes the unseen sacrifices and countless contributions of the Southwest Florida law enforcement community.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas there are approximately—</text><paragraph id="H53CAAA1C529143B38BF934E37B3F8174"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">308 law enforcement officers serving in the Cape Coral Police Department; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H19735CDCA66D4DEE9417DF829D0E342F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>300 law enforcement officers serving in the Fort Myers Police Department; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H0123C20000E648E19EB9CA9A801A120C"><enum>(3)</enum><text>29 law enforcement officers serving in the City of Sanibel Police Department; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="HC8FB340AF57648E8A520DF495F78D39B"><enum>(4)</enum><text>48 law enforcement officers serving in the Naples Police Department; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="HA112C31C144A4D44A9500AE0DE85DED2"><enum>(5)</enum><text>43 law enforcement officers serving in the Marco Island Police Department;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H4EAD2954F43F49609A42AFA0197BDE70"><enum>(6)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">1,800 law enforcement officers serving in the Lee County Sheriff’s Office; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H65DF76A5AACD4A05BE695EC780D040A1"><enum>(7)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">1,300 law enforcement officers serving in the Collier County Sheriff’s Office;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Florida Highway Patrol Troop F Headquarters is located in Fort Myers, Florida, and Troop F is staffed by 155 sworn individuals; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas law enforcement officers in Southwest Florida—</text><paragraph id="HB8836E4E7E7E4F87864CC79567C55130"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">maintain an unwavering commitment to keep the Southwest Florida community, and its visitors, safe from harm;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HF01A6A4979EB4320A0B1C62AE0A35E75"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">enforce the rule of law with fidelity to the constitutional rights and civil rights of the public; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H2404BC473F194D40AB2C62CA5AA88ACD"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">work tirelessly with consistent integrity and valor on behalf of the Southwest Florida community: Now, therefore, be it</text></paragraph></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H8BE57AAC21B543D09C635BF2D2E730B5"><section id="HA4DB51F1669447D18A658F136B9D4407" section-type="undesignated-section" display-inline="yes-display-inline"><enum/><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That it is the sense of the House of Representatives that Congress recognizes the countless contributions and unseen sacrifices of the Southwest Florida law enforcement community, and in honor of National Police Week, Congress—</text><paragraph id="H0269951935114E99AAB364C9D4919AD1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>expresses its sincere appreciation and gratitude for the brave men and women that serve as law enforcement officers in Southwest Florida;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H888C7AE1BB97458AAD3AB23890565D80"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">appreciates the unwavering contributions, efforts, and dedication that law enforcement officers in Southwest Florida provide to keep the Southwest Florida community, and its visitors, safe from harm;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H300872AD21E94DDAAEDC895400FE40FB"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">acknowledges that law enforcement officers may face danger while selflessly carrying out their public duty; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HFC8CA3EDB5F84841BD3B5AF6C2F7D3F9"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">recognizes that law enforcement officers are heroes within the Southwest Florida community.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
