<whereas><text>Whereas, on Sunday, April 7, 2024, the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>Gamecocks</quote>) won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>NCAA</quote>) 2024 Women’s Basketball National Championship (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>championship game</quote>) by defeating the University of Iowa by a score of 87 to 75 in Cleveland, Ohio;</text></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas the Gamecocks led at halftime, 49–46, and never relinquished that lead for the remainder of the game;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the victory by the Gamecocks in the championship game—</text> <paragraph id="id7195890cada84956aff9c1dde680b948"><enum>(1)</enum><text>made the Gamecocks 1 of 10 NCAA women’s basketball teams to complete an undefeated season;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="ide92563af689049b181ab3edca6d02275"><enum>(2)</enum><text>marked the second time in 3 years that the Gamecocks won the National Championship; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="id8d430160f54447e9a2d41f3f302a1346"><enum>(3)</enum><text>earned the highest television ratings for a National Championship Game in the history of college women’s basketball and the highest of any college basketball game, men's or women's, for the 2023–2024 season;</text></paragraph></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the head coach of the Gamecocks, Dawn Staley, was named the 2024 Werner Ladder Naismith Coach of the Year;</text></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas the Gamecocks displayed outstanding dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the 2023–2024 collegiate women’s basketball season in achieving the highest honor in women’s college basketball and earning a record of 38 wins and 0 losses; and</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the Gamecocks have brought pride and honor to the State of South Carolina: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H74A33786187C431A8B6ED3A6C4F8390A"> <section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H65E5C92FF2DA4CB3B450065F05634C72"><text>That the House of Representatives—</text> 
<paragraph id="H60FB80077DD64ECE8CAD8D503ACC5D1A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>commends the University of South Carolina Gamecocks for winning the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball National Championship;</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HD4A52681D9304C4B80BBC12F7AB5D6B5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes the on-court and off-court achievements of the players, coaches, and staff of the University of South Carolina’s women’s basketball team; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H2151C67479FD491EB9C338BD650181DC"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text> <subparagraph id="H2C545FC26A0144DBBCFF3441679CE90B"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the President of the University of South Carolina, Michael D. Amiridis; </text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HF145619C1AC64E7989DDFA9DBB169CE7"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the Head Coach of the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team, Dawn Staley; and</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="HD168FD34D5754E1E8EBB104F10FD5FC1"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the Athletics Director of the University of South Carolina, Ray Tanner. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section>
