R. 9897</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20241001">October 1, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="G000568">Mr. Griffith</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend section 3559 of title 18, United States Code, to provide that a misdemeanor for which no punishment or no maximum punishment is prescribed by statute shall be punishable as a Class A misdemeanor.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H9C306221D1434BB786B4FF4388A2E1EE" style="OLC"><section id="H3A4C92CD4837432D82B9CFDE220ABA17" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Class A Misdemeanor</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3559 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H492E5EF039754297A90444079834AB04" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HDACB8DEDDAB544AEB6C01E02E36A75C8"><enum>(h)</enum><header>Class A misdemeanor</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Any person who willfully and knowingly violates a provision of Federal law, for which no punishment is prescribed for such violation under statute, shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor. </text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
