R. 9615</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240917">September 17, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="A000376">Mr. Allred</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="J000288">Mr. Johnson of Georgia</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000788">Ms. Williams of Georgia</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="V000131">Mr. Veasey</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="N000147">Ms. Norton</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HHA00">Committee on House Administration</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 to establish minimum notification requirements for voters affected by polling place changes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H5E17B3D2D3A54CC89EAA36CAD94FDEC5" style="OLC"><section id="HA3F4CEBE77E0422E969EF194F0697408" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Know Your Polling Place Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H9CFB7733C2C346BA83946790315CD084" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Minimum notification requirements for voters affected by polling place changes</header><subsection id="H5711C8A522D2415287EBFCAA4D5BF851"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Requirements</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 302 of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/52/21082">52 U.S.C. 21082</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="HE1E524D224D0490FBA35FB39D0C3B668"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsection (d) as subsection (e); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H87A6572616704B099E5A1DC6E07EB52D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (c) the following new subsection:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFF135EF509444D6E8D32507983095D86" style="OLC"><subsection id="H3A540652DA074403AB6238A8FB84EF53"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Minimum notification requirements for voters affected by polling place changes</header><paragraph id="H0ADB9380B4DE4378B04E94609DBD467C"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">If a State assigns an individual who is a registered voter in a State to a polling place with respect to an election for Federal office which is not the same polling place to which the individual was previously assigned with respect to the most recent election for Federal office in the State in which the individual was eligible to vote—</text><subparagraph id="HE9B1A38434A2442D97BB0DCB716A79CE"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the State shall notify the individual of the location of the polling place not later than 7 days before the date of the election; or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HE9D33D630B2647E99E6694D62B9D49AB"><enum>(B)</enum><text>if the State makes such an assignment fewer than 7 days before the date of the election and the individual appears on the date of the election at the polling place to which the individual was previously assigned, the State shall make every reasonable effort to enable the individual to vote on the date of the election.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H1541A7C61ABE4F9A9AE1AF052DA96B19" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>This subsection shall apply with respect to elections held on or after January 1, 2026.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H0009A65880D14F398CB92BFB5F9D7470"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 302(e) of such Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/52/21082">52 U.S.C. 21082(f)</external-xref>), as redesignated by subsection (a), is amended by striking <quote>Each State</quote> and inserting <quote>Except as provided in subsection (d)(2), each State</quote>.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
