R. 9609</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240916">September 16, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="N000191">Mr. Neguse</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S001148">Mr. Simpson</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HSM00">Committee on Small Business</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Small Business Act to modify application deadlines and communication requirements for certain disaster assistance, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H133125E6F34C41AFA028FEE205E5B4AC" style="OLC"><section id="HC7D938FA7E054686AD31EB816AD3DA92" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Modification to application deadlines and communication requirements for certain disaster assistance</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 7(b) of the Small Business Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/636">15 U.S.C. 636(b)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="HCCE129F429D44C9BADAF7A1FC6591EBA"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (4)—</text><subparagraph id="HAD9A1E4CA8204669AE3A831DB0363CC6"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new subparagraphs:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H2B4C7BAC95D3439B8F195587DA2E4911" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subparagraph id="HE7B39D4467A14BDB8E55EB449C0033D5"><enum>(C)</enum><header>Extension</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">With respect to a deadline established in subparagraph (A) for a major disaster, the Administrator shall extend such deadline for a period of 60 days.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H2FF181B0446C43C5AC0B19B733BA8578"><enum>(D)</enum><header>Acceptance of applications</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Administrator may accept an application for disaster relief relating to a major disaster under this paragraph at any time if the applicant demonstrates good cause for the late submission.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HB51B959F97A1485E86A8E97D671D89CA"><enum>(E)</enum><header>Public awareness</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Administrator make efforts in addition to those efforts required under paragraph (5) to communicate to the public and to each office of a Member of Congress that represents a district in which a major disaster has occurred the requirements relating to deadlines under subparagraphs (C) and (D). </text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H98C865C18BCD4D249CF41FC88D02A0B0"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B), in the matter preceding clause (i), by striking <quote>and the Committee on Small Business of the House of Representatives</quote> and inserting <quote>, the Committee on Small Business of the House of Representatives, and each office of a Member of Congress that represents a district in which a major disaster has occurred</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H62434F5C7B6B47F3B271AAC3EADF582F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (5), in the matter preceding subparagraph (A), by inserting <quote>and to communicate to each office of a Member of Congress that represents a district in which a major disaster has occurred,</quote> after <quote>web-based outlets,</quote>. </text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
