R. 9502</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240909">September 9, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="F000476">Mr. Frost</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To provide for automatic extension of employment authorizations, to require earlier determinations on temporary protected status designations, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HD931B070A81A4F6F9C9A5983FC5D3383" style="OLC"><section id="HAF7B6C59E0FE4360A0074583DB91195B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Work Permit Reform Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HFF6F3E201E7145CFBF31FF3FC4F344F6"><enum>2.</enum><header>Employment authorization document or endorsement extensions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 244(a)(2) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1254a">8 U.S.C. 1254a(a)(2)</external-xref>) is amended to read as follows:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HDBF0DE52A26149239CC35610B9466D5B" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H38674BF599CE4D8EBB35A215EF9B9804"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Duration of work authorization</header><subparagraph id="H0DAD0D60D7BE4EC6861FEB5E02C4A046"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Work authorization provided under this section shall be effective throughout the period the alien is in temporary protected status under this section.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H2CB81C0817DC48119E71D158D91F0BA6"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Extensions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Upon extension of a foreign state’s designation pursuant to subsection (b)(3)(C), the period during which the work authorization provided under this section shall be effective shall be automatically extended for an additional period equivalent to the period of the extension of such designation if a request for renewal designated by the Secretary of Homeland Security is properly filed during the filing period described in the applicable Federal Register notice regarding the extension of the foreign state’s designation.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H4ED8981CF23F458ABBE0FCE4DA4DBDF7"><enum>(C)</enum><header>Publication on website</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Homeland Security shall include on the website of the Department of Homeland Security a notice describing any automatic extension pursuant to subparagraph (B) and shall ensure that the automatic extension is accurately reflected in the automated system known as Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, as provided for by section 404 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1324a">8 U.S.C. 1324a</external-xref> note).</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
