R. 8688</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240611">June 11, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="L000596">Mrs. Luna</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="M001219">Mr. Moylan</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to treat food for human consumption as adulterated if it contains high-fructose corn syrup.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H71D6BA482E904630976B6C39299F1A25" style="OLC"><section id="H9DA6DAE929CB4828BC0CE04C636AE492" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Stop Spoonfuls of Fake Sugar Act of 2024</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H23938FBD774B483F87F00147B3F87513"><enum>2.</enum><header>No food containing high-fructose corn syrup</header><subsection id="HB5B73F21548546ABA7C3A80B7BC7211C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Adulteration</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 402 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/342">21 U.S.C. 342</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HF26CA08C2D7C4774B09BA7BA34A81697" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="H681C1DA90A474A06B628E97D0B02FC80"><enum>(j)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">If it is food for human consumption and contains high-fructose corn syrup.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="H3FEAD8312E244FCDBE55DD3F8191E36A"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Delayed applicability</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 402(j) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as added by subsection (a), applies beginning on the date that is 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
