<section id="H6D18437948654DBEBF74EA9164721C1F" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Wild Horse Integrity and Slaughter Prevention Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H99F43DCB78474BD38F607A2E66036181"><enum>2.</enum><header>Time period before title granted; criminal penalty</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Act of December 15, 1971 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1331">16 U.S.C. 1331</external-xref>, et seq.; commonly known as the <quote>Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act</quote>) is amended as follows:</text> 
<paragraph id="HE1D7D9B6F5E44483A3C972668CEA4C84"><enum>(1)</enum><text>In section 3(c) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1333">16 U.S.C. 1333(c)</external-xref>)—</text> <subparagraph id="HF045465D29354D9B8F78541F2689C94F"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>period of one year</quote> and inserting <quote>period of 6 months</quote>; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H0ADBD4203BD841C297DBAAACB87660FB"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote>one-year period</quote> and inserting <quote>6-month period</quote>.</text></subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="H47E6A39D53B947B880A3F37AD548D72B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>In section 8 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1338">16 U.S.C. 1338</external-xref>)—</text> 
<subparagraph id="HCFF3CA491071419B97BA7EEB966B6CFB"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>Any person who</quote> and inserting <quote><header-in-text level="subsection" style="OLC"><enum-in-header>(a) </enum-in-header></header-in-text>Any person who</quote>;</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H281C9E9725114EB69015DCBDF49AE714"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in paragraph (4), by striking <quote>except as provided in section 3(e),</quote>;</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H32FF2FE30ADA4574BB042F5950871DD8"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraph (6) as paragraph (8);</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H621FCB96A43046E29BF35339CBA136E6"><enum>(D)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (5), the following:</text>

<paragraph id="HEE440EB1BB204D83AC77923268BC8853"><enum>(6)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">acquires a wild free-roaming horse or burro, or the remains thereof, with the intention of transferring such animal, or the remains thereof, directly or indirectly, for processing into commercial products, or</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H448025EB08B24124994759904A70DDDF"><enum>(7)</enum><text>knowingly transfers an acquired wild free-roaming horse or burro, or the remains thereof, directly or indirectly, for processing commercial products, or</text> </paragraph><after-quoted-block>; </after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H0DFCD2E927AA44E390EC93AE82632DE2"><enum>(E)</enum><text>in the matter following paragraph (8), as so redesignated, by striking <quote>be subject to</quote> and all that follows through <quote>United States Code</quote> and inserting <quote>have committed a felony offense punishable by a fine of not more than $2,000, imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, or both</quote>; and</text> </subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H98A8395133594484BA1BA5BF5FAFE142"><enum>(F)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by amending subsection (b) to read as follows: </text> 
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="HC37091714328454FA44C2460C9562D06" display-inline="no-display-inline"> 
<subsection id="HEB93F44B7C77407D8417AE19A8B8A4FC"><enum>(b)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture, and their respective employees, shall have power to investigate possible violations of the offenses listed in subsection (a). A finding of non-compliance shall be referred to the Attorney General (or one of the U.S. Attorney’s offices serving under the Attorney General) for prosecution. </text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </subparagraph></paragraph></section> </legis-body></bill>
