R. 8410</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240515">May 15, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="O000175">Mr. Ogles</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="G000595">Mr. Good of Virginia</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000596">Mrs. Luna</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001086">Mrs. Harshbarger</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001132">Mr. Crane</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="B001316">Mr. Burlison</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To prohibit judges from issuing gag orders in certain circumstances.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H789AC51B24964B078874784A03968C33" style="OLC"><section id="H1ECAEEC79E9B4486B49210783FA8DD61" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Let Trump Speak Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H5978821A845441969704013055050343"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition on gag orders</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">No judge of the United States or of any State may issue a gag order to the defendant in any criminal or civil proceedings except to prevent the disclosure of confidential information provided in discovery, to protect the privacy of minors, or as part of a plea agreement.</text></section><section id="H786B02A88EBE4D119D8AEF6FAC6883D6"><enum>3.</enum><header>Right of action</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Anyone issued a gag order in violation of this Act may commence a civil action seeking injunctive relief in the appropriate United States district court.</text></section><section id="H9B37D1EF3FF74488AF62B196E03AD69C"><enum>4.</enum><header>Rule of construction</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Nothing in this Act may be construed as limiting a judge’s authority to issue orders to officers of the court.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
