R. 8366</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240510">May 10, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S000522">Mr. Smith of New Jersey</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="M000312">Mr. McGovern</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HFA00">Committee on Foreign Affairs</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">the Judiciary</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To extend authorities to impose sanctions under certain laws relating to Hong Kong, Tibet, and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H363D38E08A4C4C739C0416FDABF84D6B" style="OLC"><section id="HA90600122065470A8A5280BDBDB77744" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Extension of authorities to impose sanctions under certain laws relating to Hong Kong, Tibet, and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region</header><subsection id="HDAA3F6D66D3A41D8B419E112B78D5E80"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019</header><text>Section 7(h) of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/76">Public Law 116–76</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/22/5701">22 U.S.C. 5701</external-xref> note) is amended by striking <quote>5 years</quote> and inserting <quote>10 years</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H39D959BB31664153BE7E455AB0E858E8"><enum>(b)</enum><header>An act To prohibit the commercial export of covered munitions items to the Hong Kong Police Force</header><text>Section 3 of the Act entitled <quote>An Act to prohibit the commercial export of covered munitions items to the Hong Kong Police Force</quote>, approved November 27, 2019 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/77">Public Law 116–77</external-xref>; 133 Stat. 1173), is amended by striking <quote>shall expire</quote> and all that follows and inserting <quote>shall expire on December 31, 2029.</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="HF08E0A2306A64FCE98ADA4C15A5D679B"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act of 2018</header><text>The Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act of 2018 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/115/330">Public Law 115–330</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1182">8 U.S.C. 1182</external-xref> note) is amended—</text><paragraph id="HA8971882631842988B2F62CA66F87272"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in section 4(a), in the matter preceding paragraph (1), by striking <quote>the following five years</quote> and inserting <quote>the following 10 years</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H6A63CE3F20504F0BB9FD33A62CA5EA2E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in section 5(c), in the first sentence, by striking <quote>the following five years</quote> and inserting <quote>the following 10 years</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HA0A516F144FD499896FB089EA27FC400"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020</header><text>Section 6(h) of the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2020 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/145">Public Law 116–145</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/22/6901">22 U.S.C. 6901</external-xref> note) is amended by striking <quote>5 years</quote> and inserting <quote>10 years</quote>.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
