R. 7826</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240326">March 26, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001150">Mr. Schiff</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="H001068">Mr. Huffman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="E000297">Mr. Espaillat</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000599">Mr. Ruiz</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001160">Ms. Moore of Wisconsin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001226">Ms. Salinas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000468">Ms. Titus</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="B001285">Ms. Brownley</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 with respect to certain grants authorized for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H38C3A09A2C8243F4A200AF78EB940D2A" style="OLC"><section id="H7241BB6E66E34C4192C357FC479D8E98" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Tribal Community Protection Act of 2024</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HE57174E4131D4884A778397CFD787585"><enum>2.</enum><header>Grants authorized for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 501 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10152">34 U.S.C. 10152</external-xref>) is amended to read as follows:</text><paragraph id="H038F6B3DB0EA4E45BF8499A6924CE40E"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (a)(1), by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H57052A23FC0B43908FCC2CB304B6D1D9" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subparagraph id="H86EEB16BE505403799868839B2F4CE38"><enum>(J)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Programs to provide written notification on any restraining order or temporary restraining order for the purpose of enforcement on tribal lands and enforcement of any such order issued by an Indian tribe.</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>; and </after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph><paragraph id="H1DF96EF0B29A48CA9D78C4AC9A27A69F"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H9BD23D0E1B2C42F8998FF60180C73ED5" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HA3F0BE7B1EFF4218AAE4A374FAD4E58F"><enum>(i)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section:</text><paragraph id="HB68881F281004399B669DB821DD327B1"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Tribal lands</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>tribal lands</quote> means lands the title to which is held by the United States in trust for an Indian tribe or lands the title to which is held by an Indian tribe subject to a restriction by the United States against alienation.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H284510A5214E4F2389B08EFEDEDB1E97"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Indian tribe</header><text>The term <quote>Indian tribe</quote> shall have the meaning given such term in section 102 of the Federally Recognized Indian Tribe List Act of 1994.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HFAF56F0DAD304D0FA7FC4F7508C0B841"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Written notification</header><text>The term <quote>written notification</quote> means a notification that is sent by registered or certified mail, with return receipt requested, to Indian tribes and for which a copy of such notification is sent to the appropriate Regional Director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
