R. 7509</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20240229">February 29, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="T000165">Mr. Tiffany</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="G000589">Mr. Gooden of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="O000175">Mr. Ogles</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="V000135">Mr. Van Orden</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To limit resettlement in certain States or localities.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HD21BDE1DFFBE4DDB9EB1C7298FEC966B" style="OLC"><section id="H8991CCEDBDC446B38451A559F3ED8CA4" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Community Assent for Refugee Entry Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>CARE Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HAA624E56508246BEB5D9152600DC56CF"><enum>2.</enum><header>Limitation on refugee resettlement</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 412 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1522">8 U.S.C. 1522</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H9ABEF58088EE43DEA1A8937B61F95E9A" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HA7A6D17077434E36BCB84FDF462628DE"><enum>(g)</enum><header>Limitation on resettlement</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, for a fiscal year, the resettlement of any refugee may not be provided for—</text><paragraph id="H2F9A7A411F3A46F08F0D5C74BF9AA812"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in any State where the Governor of that State, or the State legislature, has taken any action formally disapproving of resettlement in that State; or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H1BBF613E98D842D3978DFADC881F59E1"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in any locality where the chief executive of that locality’s government, or the local legislature, has taken any action formally disapproving of resettlement in that locality.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
