1.

Short title

This Act may be cited as the Honoring Our Nation’s Own Retired Servicemembers Act or the HONORS Act .

2.

Honors detail for the funeral of a veteran: required members may be retired

Section 1491(b) of title 10, United States Code, is amended—(1)in paragraph (2), in the first sentence, by inserting , subject to paragraph (4) after other than members in a retired status; and(2)by adding at the end the following new paragraph:(4)The two members described in the first sentence of paragraph (2) may, with the consent of the family of the veteran, be members in a retired status if the Secretary concerned determines that—(A)no member who is not in a retired status is available within 50 miles of the location of the funeral; or(B)use of members in a retired status is fiscally necessary..
