R. 10539</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20241219">December 19, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="R000617">Mrs. Ramirez</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend section 222 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit the rejection of immigrant and nonimmigrant applications for omissions in certain fields not required.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H353D6C58F0AB420AB105965B809D4FB3" style="OLC"><section id="H78B3D313F7A8408B9A9A82173DB3215D" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Applications for visas</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 222 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1202">8 U.S.C. 1202</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="HD2F131E2A81743F1A67C624EEEB82A4D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a), by adding after the period at the end the following: <quote>An application that is submitted in such form and manner and at such place as prescribed by regulations may not be rejected solely because it contains an omission in a field of the application not required under such regulations.</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H408EE66758DF4BDB80257892F099B187"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (c), by adding after the period at the end the following: <quote>An application that is submitted in such form and manner as prescribed by regulations may not be rejected solely because it contains an omission in a field of the application not required under such regulations.</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HC2D9FFEFA41A4C4BB0E6B0B9A6BA408F"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HF9D6A0A8D8C140E893C083FB5F8B37A4" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HA5A8E18B61904A3986AC6DF0178FD49C"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall promulgate rules and regulations to carry out any change to the adjudication criteria for an application or petition related to the immigration status of an alien under this section that would preclude or restrict consideration of such application or petition.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
