R. 10190</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20241120">November 20, 2024</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="W000814">Mr. Weber of Texas</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="C001063">Mr. Cuellar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001157">Mr. McCaul</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001051">Mr. Carter of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000377">Ms. Granger</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="G000553">Mr. Green of Texas</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HHA00">Committee on House Administration</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To direct the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution to study the feasibility of establishing a Juneteenth Museum on Galveston Island, Texas, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H1076C1F815724C379EC477D31727A0B8" style="OLC"><section id="H1861A11C3C7D42FA9A9B2F2601A85CC8" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Juneteenth Museum Act of 2024</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="HA39C1AE813074BAD81B43DC18A9E3FF8"><enum>2.</enum><header>Study on feasibility of establishing Juneteenth Museum on Galveston Island</header><subsection id="H17E0F85999694A87897ABFEA9A210CF4"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution shall carry out a study that examines the feasibility of establishing a museum for the purposes of the collection, study, research, publication, and establishment of exhibitions and programs relating to the historical significance of June 19, 1865, commonly known as <quote>Juneteenth Independence Day</quote>, to be located on Galveston Island, Texas.</text></subsection><subsection id="H5C3DB96C1AFD47088A65F8FC68EFD83D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Study requirements</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The study conducted under <internal-xref idref="H17E0F85999694A87897ABFEA9A210CF4" legis-path="2.(a)">subsection (a)</internal-xref> shall be carried out in consultation with elected officials of Galveston County and the State of Texas and community leaders from Galveston Island, and shall include an examination of—</text><paragraph id="HC6210E3B3D6044C3852D489FEFE0705E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the costs associated with the construction and operation of the museum;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H642333AE8E3242888B79E5D732599474"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">whether the museum should be established as part of the National Museum of African American History and Culture;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H55582A0B52BA4BD49A89DE4EF1DCE04B"><enum>(3)</enum><text>potential sites on Galveston Island for construction of the museum; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HED9FDBB21AFB4D538851B8A0CC4AE715"><enum>(4)</enum><text>such other matters as the Secretary determines appropriate. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H48C2CD914DB745D0A291320763725375"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Deadline for completion</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall complete the study under <internal-xref idref="H17E0F85999694A87897ABFEA9A210CF4" legis-path="2.(a)">subsection (a)</internal-xref> not later than 2 years after the date of the enactment of this Act. </text></subsection><subsection id="HA40581D199D04CEEB3ADE314BC945DF8" commented="no"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not later than 30 days after completing the study under <internal-xref idref="H48C2CD914DB745D0A291320763725375" legis-path="2.(c)">subsection (c)</internal-xref>, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on House Administration of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate a report that includes the results of the feasibility study conducted under <internal-xref idref="H17E0F85999694A87897ABFEA9A210CF4" legis-path="2.(a)">subsection (a)</internal-xref>. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
