<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>118th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 3531</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20231214">December 14, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S346">Mr. Lee</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S397">Mr. Braun</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S374">Mr. Cotton</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S375">Mr. Daines</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S410">Ms. Lummis</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S303">Mr. Thune</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSBK00">Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To prohibit actions to carry out the Department of Commerce’s pause in the issuance of new export licenses for certain exports under the Commerce Control List.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H78E6758887564303B5E05D43F9F21F4C"><section section-type="section-one" id="H72AED3498A18436DAF0DB669A78C1094"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protect American Gun Exporters Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="HCABF37561EB94AC3B263BC09CE4D5F94"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition on actions to carry out the Department of Commerce’s pause in the issuance of new export licenses for certain exports under the Commerce Control List</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Effective beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Commerce—</text><paragraph id="H80A18521FE044D968BA062B12ECE6E7A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>may not take any action to carry out the Department of Commerce’s assessment or any policy changes resulting from the assessment announced on October 27, 2023, relating to the Department’s pause in the issuance of new export licenses for exports of all items controlled under Export Control Classification Numbers 0A501, 0A502, 0A504, and 0A505 of the Commerce Control List; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H087656B38B44475E8CA5A2D80540E4D3"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">may not take any substantially similar action to pause or otherwise suspend or prohibit the issuance of new export licenses for exports of any or all items described in paragraph (1).</text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
