Short title

This Act may be cited as the BOP Direct-Hire Authority Act.

Direct hire authority for Bureau of Prisons

(a)

Direct hire authority

The Director of the Bureau of Prisons may appoint, without regard to the provisions of subchapter I of chapter 33 (other than sections 3303 and 3328 of such chapter), qualified candidates to any positions in the competitive service at Bureau of Prisons facilities.(b)

Sunset

The authority under subsection (a) shall expire on the date that 96 percent of the total number (as of the date of enactment of this Act) of competitive service positions at all such facilities are occupied.
