R. 6628</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20231206">December 6, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="G000576">Mr. Grothman</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="C001090">Mr. Cartwright</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001196">Ms. Stefanik</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001275">Mr. Bucshon</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000190">Mr. Norman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000814">Mr. Weber of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="J000292">Mr. Johnson of Ohio</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000483">Mr. Trone</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001077">Mr. Higgins of Louisiana</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001212">Mr. Stauber</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="A000377">Mr. Armstrong</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001133">Mr. Ciscomani</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="V000134">Ms. Van Duyne</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Oversight and Accountability</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To provide direct hire authority to the Director of the Bureau of Prisons.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H53A6088777504FCF9A110E302B1BEC34" style="OLC"><section id="HAB6EEB26E25E4AD1A4D784B4961130C5" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>BOP Direct-Hire Authority Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H413F190D4B444DF2B0F7FA981416827E"><enum>2.</enum><header>Direct hire authority for Bureau of Prisons<editorial></editorial></header><subsection id="H5F75AE95FA9749268FCCB3C55A5DE67B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Direct hire authority</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Director of the Bureau of Prisons may appoint, without regard to the provisions of subchapter I of chapter 33 (other than sections 3303 and 3328 of such chapter), qualified candidates to any positions in the competitive service at Bureau of Prisons facilities.</text></subsection><subsection id="H078246155B484C7DBD854B605DDCE015"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Sunset</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The authority under subsection (a) shall expire on the date that 96 percent of the total number (as of the date of enactment of this Act) of competitive service positions at all such facilities are occupied.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
