and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HA55BF3A0DFF9486597A02AF7903B957B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (4) the following new paragraph:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H583F39371B8642FF9AD26A3DAE957FF5" changed="added" reported-display-style="italic" committee-id="HBA00"><paragraph id="HDA203C88E3CA48F6981DFA4EED91EEFE"><enum>(5)</enum><header>Applicability of sanctions with respect to Chinese financial institutions</header><subparagraph id="H1DD3C641E10845F68D04AFD6D9C116D4"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text>For the purpose of paragraph (1)(A), a <quote>significant financial transaction</quote> includes any transaction by a Chinese financial institution (without regard to the size, number, frequency, or nature of the transaction) involving the purchase of petroleum or petroleum products from Iran.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H20C985B8A0C2496DA9130BDB8235AC70"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Determination Required</header><text>Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this paragraph and every year thereafter for 5 years, the President shall—</text><clause id="HDAFED4BD5119451996DEC8C2E030BF6E"><enum>(i)</enum><text>determine whether any Chinese financial institution has engaged in a significant financial transaction as described in paragraph (1)(A); and</text></clause><clause id="H0173E3426DFC4E5B8FB76BB6FFD0B7B8"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>transmit the determination under clause (i) to the Committee on Financial Services of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs of the Senate.</text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body><endorsement display="yes"><action-date date="20231219">December 19, 2023</action-date><action-desc>Reported with an amendment, committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the State of the Union, and ordered to be printed</action-desc></endorsement></bill>
