<section id="HC7C8EB5D31744926971EA2AA5B2BFEA1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Stop Overdose in Schools Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section> <section id="HE8EC6F4789814F4C89EFE2EF7530B737"><enum>2.</enum><header>Pilot program for opioid reversal agent administration training</header> <subsection id="H6C6DB17E432442199338A070B3961D12"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Grants</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1003 of the 21st Century Cures Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/290ee-3a">42 U.S.C. 290ee–3a</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H02DA22322847436781BBA69B8FCD7E9E" commented="no"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsections (h) and (i) as subsections (i) and (j), respectively; and</text> </paragraph> <paragraph id="H80F93F8579DF4304BD9E708F778E6187"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (g) the following: </text>

<subsection id="H6881E89FCD1341759B4C9E7682A5DE90"><enum>(h)</enum><header>Pilot program for opioid reversal agent administration training</header> 
<paragraph id="H048CA2A0681140E68CC22DAC30B6CC25"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">As part of the program established under this section, the Secretary shall establish a pilot program under which the Secretary will award grants to school districts—</text> <subparagraph id="H059D4D93F976437C979FA295AEB06013"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to train school resource officers, security personnel, and school nurses in the administration of opioid reversal agents;</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HE1431CF684E74FBF96BC52B2F75801A8"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to purchase opioid reversal agent kits; and</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H46AD911F205E49D3930D0CE8F01A1FB9"><enum>(C)</enum><text>to provide awareness of opioid use disorder and strategies for preventing overdose deaths.</text></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HD020D59916BE499B8E4E4629552A6572"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Priority</header><text>In selecting recipients of a grant under this subsection, the Secretary shall—</text> <subparagraph id="H01E941C99F9D494185B40283D71C27B2"><enum>(A)</enum><text>ensure that 50 percent of such recipients are school districts located in a rural area (as defined by the Secretary); and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HA0B501DB55EB437C9EA2613BBA44A64E"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in selecting the remaining 50 percent of recipients, give priority to school districts located in areas with high rates of drug-related overdoses by youth (as defined by the Secretary).</text></subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="H688568A85EFD4A888A91F82FAEE8BBA3"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Conditions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">As a condition on the receipt of a grant under this subsection, a school district shall agree that if the school district has a school resource officer or any security personnel, the officer (or personnel) must be trained in opioid reversal agent administration.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HF1B011CA6C974E26AE1A759DDDD72908"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Definition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this subsection, the term <quote>opioid reversal agent</quote> means an opioid antagonist or other drug that has been approved or otherwise authorized by the Food and Drug Administration to reverse the effects of an opioid.</text> </paragraph> </subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="H3D807327227747C4811735225132B99E"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Set aside funding</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Paragraph (3) of section 1003(j) of the 21st Century Cures Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/290ee-3">42 U.S.C. 290ee–3</external-xref> note), as redesignated by subsection (a)(1), is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HDCCC48541D384CD6A5139F0F54E22255"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H39A7A6EB83A64DED9246C8121142495C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H3134D951346C4FE09BEFA47B32932A9F"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="H3F092D614FEA48C0925F4C4EA4E4A99D" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <subparagraph id="H01D242348B644E878B0DE8E0043D10BA"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">of the amount remaining after application of subparagraphs (A) and (B), set aside not less than $5,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2024 and 2025 to carry out subsection (h).</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> </section>
