R. 5110</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20230801">August 1, 2023</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="G000590">Mr. Green of Tennessee</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="H001067">Mr. Hudson</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HED00">Committee on Education and the Workforce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to clarify that the prohibition on the use of Federal education funds for certain weapons does not apply to the use of such weapons for training in archery, hunting, or other shooting sports.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H042AA69E33394C288EE0E5BD257A8760" style="OLC"><section id="H1255051F93114D28B3165815D399C705" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H1F6D249F2B73419C82F37B18BB7DF8A2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Clarification of prohibition on use of Federal education funds for certain weapons and related training</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 8526(7) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/7906">20 U.S.C. 7906(7)</external-xref>) is amended by inserting <quote>, except that this paragraph shall not apply so as to prohibit the use of funds under this Act for the provision or use of such a weapon for purposes of training students in archery, hunting, or other shooting sports</quote> before the period at the end.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
