<congress display="yes">117th CONGRESS</congress><session display="yes">2d Session</session><legis-num display="yes">S. 1259</legis-num><current-chamber display="no">IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><legis-type display="yes">AN ACT</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To provide that crib bumpers shall be considered banned hazardous products under section 8 of the Consumer Product Safety Act, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H2F158D8FAA4346F8B8AE5687AEC0C089"><section section-type="section-one" id="HB3F3DA0BEDF14EC3BCBC5D88696FBD1D" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Safe Cribs Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HB2869457EF0E42B3AFC467D378D88FAA" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Banning of crib bumpers</header><subsection id="H20153E961D174003977CD648A3041C3E" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, crib bumpers, regardless of the date of manufacture, shall be considered a banned hazardous product under section 8 of the Consumer Product Safety Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/2057">15 U.S.C. 2057</external-xref>).</text></subsection><subsection id="H5578DFAC19DD4A5CA5B1434E4909CB22" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(b)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Crib bumper defined</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section, the term <quote>crib bumper</quote>—</text><paragraph id="HDCF16BE959184226BE9C597416DAF892" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">means any material that is intended to cover the sides of a crib to prevent injury to any crib occupant from impacts against the side of a crib or to prevent partial or complete access to any openings in the sides of a crib to prevent a crib occupant from getting any part of the body entrapped in any opening;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H1BFB83A56DAB43A8A1FA348574CB6876" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">includes a padded crib bumper, a supported and unsupported vinyl bumper guard, and vertical crib slat covers; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H1F435BE30A4F4B50A536D0789F38AAB4" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">does not include a non-padded mesh crib liner.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body><attestation><attestation-group><attestation-date date="20220323" chamber="Senate">Passed the Senate March 23, 2022.</attestation-date><attestor display="no"></attestor><role>Secretary</role></attestation-group></attestation><endorsement display="yes"></endorsement></bill>
