<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 854</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210318">March 18, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S221">Mrs. Feinstein</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S153">Mr. Grassley</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To designate methamphetamine as an emerging threat, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Methamphetamine Response Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idf1b405e9afb944c8bbbe6d5b999f97f4"><enum>2.</enum><header>Declaration of emerging threat</header><subsection id="id4E7D6AA880E5492D96398095DB5473B9"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Congress declares methamphetamine an emerging drug threat, as defined in section 702 of the Office of National Drug Control Policy Reauthorization Act of 1998 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/1701">21 U.S.C. 1701</external-xref>), in the United States.</text></subsection><subsection id="id84ebb5a6f9304ddc863a2809220c6a5c"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Required emerging threat response plan</header><text>Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy shall establish and implement an Emerging Threat Response Plan that is specific to methamphetamine in accordance with section 709(d) of the Office of National Drug Control Policy Reauthorization Act of 1998 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/1708">21 U.S.C. 1708(d)</external-xref>). </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
