<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2247</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210624">June 24, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S399">Mr. Hawley</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To protect Federal judges, Federal prosecutors, and Federal law enforcement officers from violence and doxing.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="idAFFF08ABD9D149CBBA5FCC889174B245" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Protecting Federal judges, Federal prosecutors, and Federal law enforcement officers from violence and doxing</header><subsection id="idA36445E942994A599DB0811C5AF3E308"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text><paragraph id="id9F4E245397B5409DB989FD1C290372C6"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Federal law enforcement officer</header><text>The term <quote>Federal law enforcement officer</quote> has the meaning given the term in section 115 of title 18, United States Code.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idF8FAF951CE3D4CF2AB4720DAA65AE1EB"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Personal protected information</header><text>The term <quote>personal protected information</quote> has the meaning given the term <quote>means of identification</quote> in section 1028 of title 18, United States Code.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idCB6AC09E05B445BE82DD6952A4196F29"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization To list post office boxes</header><text>Section 926B of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idB314E8EE6089487C9FAC0105E5102242"><subsection id="idCAA47FD500E44984A5DE243BB493C3A6"><enum>(g)</enum><header>Authorization To list post office boxes</header><text>Notwithstanding any other provision of Federal or State law, a Federal judge, Federal prosecutor, or Federal law enforcement officer may list a post office box in lieu of a home address for any Federal, State, or other governmental purpose, if there is a risk that the address may be made public.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="idF347907190374C63A52791BAA65F5694"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Guidance</header><text>The Attorney General, in coordination with the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, shall—</text><paragraph id="idEABA56F8267247CDAE8D1453C685A005"><enum>(1)</enum><text>promulgate regulations and issue guidance to implement subsection (g) of section 926B of title 18, United States Code, as added by subsection (b) of this section;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idAEC99E495A244B8FB156C84E66B47FCD"><enum>(2)</enum><text>develop and implement programs to—</text><subparagraph id="id50DE57226A7B4D7D9D74C930652C97DA"><enum>(A)</enum><text>detect when the personal protected information of a Federal judge, Federal prosecutor, or Federal law enforcement officer is made public, including online; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id293B08DBBBFF4CDDA7DEEF619AC10757"><enum>(B)</enum><text>take remedial action to quickly remove the information from the public domain; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id1D6D4627CD7940EE8F951A8BC622E0C7"><enum>(3)</enum><text>develop and implement resources for a Federal judge, Federal prosecutor, or Federal law enforcement officer to—</text><subparagraph id="id5842B481544A427CA7B12C83A3030F84"><enum>(A)</enum><text>report that the personal protected information of the judge, prosecutor, or officer has been made public, including online; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idD038F08ABD814F458898EDCC3ABA195B"><enum>(B)</enum><text>ascertain what remedial action the Federal agencies have taken.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id39A34CDDD8AE413C9F59C23AD6AA486A"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Appropriations</header><text>There is authorized to be appropriated and is appropriated—</text><paragraph id="idCE585934A4A747D6AD91A2F3668108DF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>$15,000,000 to the Department of Justice to carry out this section; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id611B9722219A4ED4935C278F51D093BB"><enum>(2)</enum><text>$25,000,000 to the Department of Homeland Security to carry out this section.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
