RES. 444</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210525">May 25, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001209">Ms. Spanberger</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="G000588">Mr. Gonzalez of Ohio</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Reform</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Expressing support for the designation of the week of September 19 through September 25, 2021, as <quote>Purple Star Families Week</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas it is recognized that wounds sustained through armed service to the United States of America are both visible and invisible;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas these invisible wounds are frequently undertreated and poorly healed;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Department of Veterans Affairs has determined that an average of more than 20 veterans die by suicide per day;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas veterans account for a disproportionate percentage of all adult suicides in the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas surviving family members of veterans who succumb to the invisible wounds of war are often forgotten and isolated;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas these family members lose their link to the support and strength of the military and veteran communities after their loss;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the need for formal recognition of these families is vital to the strength, health, and survival of the community of United States veterans;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas these families may be designated for recognition and support as <quote>Purple Star Families</quote>; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the week of September 19 through September 25, 2021, is an appropriate week to designate as <quote>Purple Star Families Week</quote>: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H67CDBC3FC03441CA8A4E8E1F44A4CCBA"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H2B65C947FC7541B1A90253AD3C6E4F2F"><enum/><text>That the House of Representatives supports the designation of <quote>Purple Star Families Week</quote>.</text></section></resolution-body></resolution>
