R. 4236</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210629">June 29, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="P000096">Mr. Pascrell</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To guarantee that grants are made under the health profession opportunity grant program under section 2008 of the Social Security Act to grantees in each State that is not a territory, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H16046F8DF1BF498494E1926ECFA2896D" style="OLC"><section id="H468DA42F8A9940EA920E178F85F14443" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Health Opportunities to Promote Equity Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>HOPE Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H1E07900CEA204313AB460962E01CDC70"><enum>2.</enum><header>Guarantee of grantees in each State and the district of columbia; reports to the Congress</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2008 of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1397g">42 U.S.C. 1397g</external-xref>) is amended by redesignating subsections (c) and (d) as subsections (d) and (e), respectively, and by inserting after subsection (b) the following:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HEDA04F8F967143B7874707EFD6D79CE7" style="OLC"><subsection id="H6A88AF68812248F6A607E90DD5F7CE42"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Guarantee of grantees in each state and the district of columbia</header><paragraph id="HF4CF6100A2F449B0A72D57ED4F3B6927"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>For each fiscal year, the Secretary shall award a grant under this section to at least 2 eligible entities in each State that is not a territory, to the extent there are a sufficient number of applications submitted by the entities that meet the requirements applicable with the grant. If, for a fiscal year, there are fewer than 2 such eligible entities in such a State, the Secretary shall include that information in the report required by paragraph (2) that covers the fiscal year.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HFEE07DD4849B459396C086E37BFB5809"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Reports to the congress</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">During each Congress, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Finance of the Senate a report on, with respect to the period since the period covered in the most recent prior report submitted under this paragraph—</text><subparagraph id="HB802EC80747B4982913C260D0A0809BD"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the number of applications submitted under each subsection of this section;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H9EA2CA25B04140BDB4BC110949238BF9"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the number of the applications that were approved; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H833A0DF4EF7C47A783BC4F9C60DE86E3"><enum>(C)</enum><text>a description of how grants were made in any case described in the last sentence of paragraph (1).</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section><section id="HA6626E6098354713AB2F9E535FC491AB"><enum>3.</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The amendments made by this Act shall take effect on October 1, 2021.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
