which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009 to expedite the special immigrant visa process for certain Afghan allies, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HD19913C2140B48DDB83959F863525BA7" style="OLC"><section id="HF6B6E4CC49024FDB886D0F73852A0FFC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Averting Loss of Life and Injury by Expediting SIVs Act of 2021</short-title></quote> or as the <quote><short-title>Allies Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H6E15579E70ED443ABEE1F743410E9847"><enum>2.</enum><header>Improving Afghan special immigrant visa program</header><subsection id="H99C9D7553D7B469CA9A719CEDC2AC5B3"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Evidence of serious threat</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 602(b)(2) of the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1101">8 U.S.C. 1101</external-xref> note) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H48E5A540F1594C018975FB451229AB7E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking subparagraph (E); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H8B05941CC0DD42659D2B9FEE15806ADB"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by redesignating subparagraph (F) as subparagraph (E).</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HB4A2A5BDADB14D09A32B5F8D095E01D0"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Activities for United States military personnel stationed at International Security Assistance Force</header><text>Section 602(b)(2)(A)(ii)(II)(bb) of the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1101">8 U.S.C. 1101</external-xref> note) is amended by striking <quote>sensitive and trusted</quote>. </text></subsection><subsection id="HEAA5CBCAAAED4BD79CD77389746C2E0C"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Applicability</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by this section shall apply to any application for special immigrant visas under the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1101">8 U.S.C. 1101</external-xref> note) that are pending on the date of the enactment of this Act or filed on or after such date.</text></subsection><subsection id="H37F825999A714CB2A5CBBB91BBDCBB69"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Rule of construction</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by this section shall not diminish, replace or override any vetting, verification of employment, approval by chief of mission, or any other screening process required for a special immigrant visa under the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1101">8 U.S.C. 1101</external-xref> note). </text></subsection></section><section id="H5731DCD2B9FC46408374B535E9332688"><enum>3.</enum><header>Additional Afghan special immigrant visa allotment</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 602(b)(3) of the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1101">8 U.S.C. 1101</external-xref> note) is amended by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H97F8D5D1116745F4800C3FB7FBC2C528"><subparagraph id="H585E943E3FE44CF88801E2DFCBE601F2"><enum>(G)</enum><header>Subsequent fiscal years</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Beginning on the date of the enactment of this subparagraph, in addition to any unused balance under this paragraph, 8,000 principal aliens may be granted special immigrant status under this subsection. For purposes of status provided under this subparagraph the authority to issue visas shall commence on the date of the enactment of this subparagraph and shall terminate on the date such visas are exhausted.</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
