R. 3304</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210518">May 18, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="F000468">Mrs. Fletcher</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="T000472">Mr. Takano</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 38, United States Code, to authorize the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide or assist in providing an additional vehicle adapted for operation by disabled individuals to certain eligible persons, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HCC837968B3BF472B9CA87161CC647381" style="OLC"><section id="H68D1DF9115154033B878CE84D80EFE2F" section-type="section-one" commented="no"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Care Access Resources for Veterans Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>CARS for Vets Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HFBDC9B3196194D889538387FD66B49D1" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Authority of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide or assist in providing additional vehicles adapted for operation by disabled individuals to certain eligible persons</header><subsection id="HCA0A7748B00243B593FDA5BF16417290"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 3903(a) of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="HDA3628A02E2A4D908F89C2030F9F3CBB"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (1), by striking <quote>paragraph (2)</quote> and inserting <quote>paragraphs (2) and (3)</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H09EE631ADEF4451F9F832EF002E40298"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HE708D72DB8354809844D0AF0C0E2CBDC" style="USC"><paragraph id="H90CFBAD45A174EE495E1F96EF809C2FF" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary may provide or assist in providing an eligible person with an additional automobile or other conveyance under this chapter if 10 years have elapsed since the date on which the eligible person received the immediately previous such automobile, other conveyance, or assistance under this chapter.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H9DB8C9E922FE41E299B821A64F9E7065"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Paragraph (3) of subsection (a) of section 3903 of title 38, United States Code, shall apply with respect to the provision of an additional automobile or other conveyance that occurs on or after October 1, 2020.</text></subsection></section><section id="HE9F2256981E3488F81F8EB66C05A6C09"><enum>3.</enum><header>Department of Veterans Affairs treatment of certain vehicle modifications as medical services</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1701(6) of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H4C46EA7580FB49D98723E51BCEE7CF52" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subparagraph id="H7B98B81E38554169BB3C141047B5942E"><enum>(I)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The provision of medically necessary van lifts, raised doors, raised roofs, air-conditioning, and wheelchair tiedowns for passenger use.</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
