R. 2983</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210504">May 4, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="K000378">Mr. Kinzinger</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="M001202">Mrs. Murphy of Florida</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow the deduction for interest paid on student loans without reduction for employer educational assistance.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H8FC94610A29D458EAEC03FDAD7FE7052" style="OLC"><section id="H8BDED3D259E04B56B6AED0B8856405F9" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Readily Ending Debt Under Corporate Engagement Act of 2021</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>REDUCE Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H68E0DD6465A34C308E747E1B38CA1194" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Student loan interest deduction not offset by employer educational assistance</header><subsection id="H5161BC905E454906A989A489FAD7205C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/221">Section 221(d)(2)(A)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking <quote>127,</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H7675F9F5F8D74BFBAEDE85589016B748"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Change to denial of double benefit rule</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 221(e)(1) of such Code is amended by striking <quote>, or for which an exclusion is allowable under section 127 to the taxpayer by reason of the payment by the taxpayer’s employer of any indebtedness on a qualified education loan of the taxpayer</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H28F50EEC3DB743C8ACEBEC046749F487"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2020.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
