R. 2871</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210428">April 28, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="C001051">Mr. Carter of Texas</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="B001291">Mr. Babin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000377">Ms. Granger</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001295">Mr. Bost</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000552">Mr. Gohmert</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001157">Mr. McCaul</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000816">Mr. Williams of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000565">Mr. Gosar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001274">Mr. Brooks</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000578">Mr. LaMalfa</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000615">Mr. Duncan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S000250">Mr. Sessions</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000026">Mr. Nehls</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000609">Mr. Rutherford</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C000059">Mr. Calvert</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="C001053">Mr. Cole</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To prohibit the use of military installations to house aliens who do not have a lawful immigration status or are undergoing removal proceedings in the United States.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H96F92247EE5B4F09B96D823E7022E6DD" style="OLC"><section id="H39EA0DDB9BE54427A45E13D8330EAB72" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Resist Executive Amnesty on Defense Installations Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>READI Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H21EE700BE34E4B36A3A7490B2846A8F8"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition on use of military installations to house aliens who do not have a lawful immigration status or are undergoing removal proceedings in the United States</header><subsection id="HCA93FAF25AC34866AED42A3A68BFC516"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Prohibition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A military installation may not be used to house any alien unlawfully present in the United States.</text></subsection><subsection id="H5E4B45FBCFB544539340EA89B7271D59"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text><paragraph id="HA371C738595C408181873DD151C28D26"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>alien unlawfully present</quote> means an alien who—</text><subparagraph id="H97915906542644BABC746E4F522E1996"><enum>(A)</enum><text>is covered by the rule of construction regarding unlawful presence contained in section 212(a)(9)(B)(ii) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1182">8 U.S.C. 1182(a)(9)(B)(ii)</external-xref>); or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HE38350A166DD4BF7B09FB6FDD716B548"><enum>(B)</enum><text>is undergoing removal proceedings in the United States.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HFD098755B0564953A2163A318D3F4299"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The term <quote>military installation</quote> has the meaning given that term in section 2801(c)(4) of title 10, United States Code, but does not include an installation located outside of the United States.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
