which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HHA00">Committee on House Administration</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To direct the Architect of the Capitol to design and install in the United States Capitol an exhibit that depicts the attack on the Capitol that occurred on January 6, 2021, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H13B05AD0483847B88430A5DFB99B2C51" style="OLC"><section id="H32076E11590C45E0AE51AC34FF486166" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Capitol Remembrance Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H9BD0CB399E5B4541A8A2A76AD6F8B0FE"><enum>2.</enum><header>Exhibit depicting the attack on the Capitol</header><subsection id="H089CA228B16C445084A67AF2017165A1"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Not later than 2 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Architect of the Capitol, in consultation with the Joint Committee on the Library, shall carry out a project to design and install in a prominent location in the United States Capitol a permanent exhibit that depicts the attack on the Capitol that occurred on January 6, 2021.</text></subsection><subsection id="H6FD10EB1A6554A31ACC99F2DF6426C80"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Exhibit requirements</header><paragraph id="H6FCA5F95F55C4C1089D128ACE0B7D3EF"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Inclusion of Capitol property</header><text>The Architect shall, to the extent practicable, preserve property from the United States Capitol or the United States Capitol Grounds (as described in section 5102 of title 40, United States Code) that was damaged during the attack and include such property in the exhibit described in <internal-xref idref="H089CA228B16C445084A67AF2017165A1" legis-path="1.(a)">subsection (a)</internal-xref> as the Architect determines appropriate.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H74D7EB68DEEA40439F9E4977673AD775"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Photographic records</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Architect shall include existing photographic records relating to the attack on the Capitol in the exhibit described in <internal-xref idref="H089CA228B16C445084A67AF2017165A1" legis-path="1.(a)">subsection (a)</internal-xref>.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H8595EAB93EFF42B9AECF7B5625F7FC1A"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Plaque</header><text>The Architect shall include in the exhibit described in <internal-xref idref="H089CA228B16C445084A67AF2017165A1" legis-path="1.(a)">subsection (a)</internal-xref> a plaque for the purpose of honoring—</text><subparagraph id="HB3046172BCB8487F8E7E5109649D86E9"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the United States Capitol Police and other law enforcement agencies that participated in protecting the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H872E0FFA1B2646A7A649980167F2662F"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the sacrifice of heroes, including United States Capitol Police Officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood, Metropolitan Police Department Officer Jeffrey Smith, and those who sustained injuries as a result of protecting the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H8F3F7A5A5F5344CEBED1438127240527"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Capitol staff that helped restore the Capitol Complex after the attack.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H0DCC7399AAA040E58F1EE625B40394A3"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Artwork</header><text>The Architect may include artwork created to depict the attack on the Capitol in the exhibit described in <internal-xref idref="H089CA228B16C445084A67AF2017165A1" legis-path="2.(a)">subsection (a)</internal-xref>. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HE12F3665D57A44C292E2EB17F92E0B6D"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There are authorized to be appropriated such sums as are necessary to carry out this Act. Amounts appropriated pursuant to this subsection shall remain available until expended.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
