RES. 991</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20200604">June 4, 2020</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="F000466">Mr. Fitzpatrick</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="J000126">Ms. Johnson of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="J000302">Mr. Joyce of Pennsylvania</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="U000040">Ms. Underwood</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Expressing support for designation of March 1 as <quote>National Healthcare Professional Appreciation Day</quote> in commemoration of the day the first American healthcare professional became infected with COVID-19 while caring for a patient.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas healthcare professionals have put saving and caring for others above their own personal health and safety;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas healthcare professionals have gone above and beyond their call of duty to help stem the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (in this resolution referred to as <quote>COVID-19</quote>) through treating and testing millions of Americans and by performing vaccine research;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas healthcare professionals have saved thousands of lives during the COVID-19 pandemic with their selfless care;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas through these unprecedented times healthcare professionals have continued to treat and comfort those most affected by COVID-19 even when those professionals have not had access to adequate personal protective equipment;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas over 10,000 healthcare professionals have tested positive for COVID-19;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas brave healthcare professionals have left their families daily to tend to those in need, and some have not seen their loved ones for extended periods of time;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas many healthcare professionals have been working around the clock, seven days a week;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas hundreds of healthcare professionals have lost their lives to COVID-19; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas February 29, 2020, a leap day, was the date on which the first healthcare professional was infected with COVID-19: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H2C4950B8302342789C4CDA8DF30D2C5D"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H3180BAFAC40D4AF9B30EC1B42EE020A2"><enum/><text>That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="HFA65630D7AE545528FBC244BCB6FAAD7"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">supports the designation of <quote>National Healthcare Professional Appreciation Day</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HD3A03370911A48808C3B7FBA10B84CB1"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of healthcare professionals in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
